Gas prices soar, how to save money at the tank

Gas prices keep going up and up and there is nothing we can do, right? WRONG!  We can't make the gas prices go down but we can be smarter at the pump and be able to get more mileage for our buck.

  • One thing that everybody should know, is the faster you go, the more money you burn. Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 MPH.

  • Keep tires inflated, this saves about 6%

  • Keep car maintained properly can save you 7%

  • Fill up on Monday or Tuesday, earlier in the week because gas stations get thier reports on Wednesday and that is usually when gas prices take a hike up.

  • When at the pump, there are 3 different speeds on the handle. Slow, medium and fast.  Always pump on the slow speed. The faster you pump the gas into the tank, the more the fumes are going right back into a researve and you are not actually getting a gallon of gas, even though it says you are.

  • Fill up in early morning hours when the gas underground is still more dense and cold.  If you fill up later in the day when it is warmer, you are actually not getting the proper amount of gas per gallon.

  • Fill up your car when it hits 1/2 tank.  The more room in your tank gives gas fumes a chance to escape and your loosing your gas even faster.

  • Do not let the car idle when waiting for someone. Turn the car off then back on when your ready to go, it takes lets gas to restart the car than it does to let it idle.

  • Have lots of errands to run? Group your errands together, to save time and gas.

  • Check out www.gasbuddy.com to see the cheapest gas stations in the area, remember the smaller mom and pop gas stations are always cheaper.

  • Take advantage of those Perk cards from Speedway and Family Express. Those can save you money off your per gallon.
  •
  • Keep the trunk clear of heavy items because the more that is in your trunk, the more weight you have and the harder your car has to work which in turn, burns more gas.

I know some of these you probably have heard already but i thought they would be worth mentioning again, just to jog the brain. I hope I have helped you learn how to save money at the tank. If we just follow these tips, we will be able to stretch our paychecks a little further at the pumps.

Online ways to save money

As gas prices seem to sky rocket, there are more and more people shopping online. There are so many ways to shop online and be able to save money at the same time using coupon codes. On most sites that you shop on, there is a place for a code to be able to get a discount on the product your purchasing or even free shipping.  There are several sites you can use to do this but my favorite site is www.couponchief.com .

All you need to do is visit the site and type in what retailer you are going to shop from...say you want to buy something from Old Navy...you type in Old Navy and the coupon codes come up that are available. Then all you do is copy and paste the code into the checkout and BAM...your discount is applies right away. Couponchief.com also allows you to put in codes that you may have for a certain site and when someone uses that code, then you will earn 2% of the coupon sales!  Nice way to earn extra spending money!

The thing I most like about www.couponchief.com, is when you sign up, they will send e-mails to you to let you know when a new coupon code has came up for your favorite online retailer. That shows they really care about saving you money!

With all the ways to shop online and save money, why not?  Give it a shot and save your gas for when you really need it.

 Happy couponing!

Thanks!

Coupon matchups for Strack and VanTil starting April 7-13 and Tysens April 4-10

Hi all,

I had some time today to do some matchups for the upcoming week and I thought I would like to talk about something that was asked of me today from my ex-sister-in-law(Still my family, J ) and I’m sure it’s a question that everybody has since the Extreme couponing show has aired on TLC and ready to air again soon. (There is a lady on weusecoupons.com that was chosen to be on that show that is coming up and the moderator of weusecoupons.com is the man who was on the last airing and we be on again this next one.) She asked me “HOW IN THE WORLD DO THEY DO IT?”

That show gets regular couponers so frustrated when they see those people saving all that money but the thing to remember is the reason we use coupons, it is to save money and any money saved is a WONDERFUL thing. Remember, it helps if you live in an area that has a GREAT grocery store that doubles or even has great sales.  We are lucky enough to have several stores in the area that have great sales but unfortunately they do not double unless you want to drive 30 miles or so to Wiseway, but is it really worth it by the time you spend the money in gas to get there? Of course if you work that way, or up that way, it might pay you to stop in and give them a shot, but I try not to drive to far for the deals because if I’m going to get 3 free things from Target but pay $15.00 in gas to get there, are they really FREE?  Just something to ponder.

In the matchups I will show you that it is possible to get FREE items at your local store if you watch the ads, keep your coupons and keep track of when the lowest possible deal is going to come around.
